Welcome back and to the start of what is sure to be an exciting Winter Sport season. Best of luck to those teams who kick of their seasons this Saturday. Most of our boys will be in the final Saturday of internal trials.
A special thank you to all of the staff who volunteered their holidays to provide our boys with outstanding opportunities to tour, compete and continue their training.
Mr Brian Smith and the Rugby program ran a successful tour of New Zealand. Our boys were outstanding winning six matches from six against some tough New Zealand competition. Thank you as well to Mr James Bruce for providing the opportunity for our boys to travel to The Armidale School Rugby Carnival, and running Camp Wallaby.
Mr Phil Cooney and his team ran a four day training camp preparing what is an outstanding Rifle Shooting team for their upcoming GPS season. Reports from the camp are that the boys are well on target to compete well.
Mr Matthew Williams and Mr Jeremy Williams were busy running Athletics and Cross Country training throughout the holidays. The Cross Country team kick off their first scoring race next Saturday and look to be the team to beat early on.
Mr Tony Canning and Mr Andrew Goldsmith ran a successful pre-season camp at Narrabeen for our Football team. Thank you as well to Tony for providing another Football Fun Camp to our younger boys.
Congratulations to Mr Gary Faulkner and his team who travelled with our boys to the NSW Sailing Championships. Our boys had a tremendous amount of success with our best finish ever placing first and second in the state.
What’s new and exciting to look forward to this term?
As a Department we are always looking at ways to improve our communication with boys, parents and the great Scots Sport community. We are excited to introduce the Schoolbox app to the community this term. This will allow us to quickly send you push notifications about any news, fixtures, or cancellations. We will be sending out more information throughout the term. The app is now up on App Store and Google Play.
Graeme Dedrick Memorial Scoreboard
Construction has begun on the Graeme Dedrick Memorial Scoreboard. As a Scots Sport community we are all excited to see this project progress. Our aim is to have the scoreboard live and running by next weekend with all works complete by the end of this term. A grand opening will be planned upon completion in Term 3.
Mind Body Heart
Our first round of Mind Body Heart testing is now complete. All boys in our Junior Development Programs did an outstanding job in the first round of tests this year. Over the next week all boys will be receiving their first Mind Body Heart report on Pipeline. With this report is information on how boys should focus on improving on their weaknesses and maintaining their strengths over the next term of training. A reminder that the Mind Body Heart Pathway is open to all boys across all age groups in the College and as a Sport team we encourage all boys to commit to their Mind Body Heart training. More information on the Mind Body Heart Pathway can be found on Schoolbox.
Good luck to all of our boys this weekend. With the commitment that you have shown to your training throughout the holidays we are confident of a successful winter sport season ahead.
From Ed White, Senior Sportsmaster
Welcome back to Term 2 after the holiday break. Well done to the Rugby Squad who had a very successful tour of New Zealand winning all six games. There were some really good camps over the break with good numbers in each Sport. We play our last internal trial this Saturday before next weekend taking on St Joseph’s in most fixtures.
The weather forecast is looking good for the next week so hopefully no cancellations due to rain for the upcoming weekends.
From Brent Wilsmore, Senior Sportsmaster
Congratulations to those boys who travelled to The Armidale School and represented the College well and a big thank you to Mr James Bruce for all of his work with Camp Wallaby.
We look forward to another outstanding Winter Sport season.
From David Todd, Director of Athlete Development and Pathways
Jack Goddard had a fantastic tournament on the Tennis Court, placing overall sixth at the U16 State Championships. Jack is an outstanding Scots boy, who is incredibly driven to pursue excellence both on and off the court. Congratulations Jack on an outstanding achievement.
Ted Ferguson competed in the NSW U18 Team at the Basketball Australia U18 National Championships in Townsville over the holidays. This is Ted's first major taste at a National event outside of the Schools Pathway. Ted and his team performed superbly, bringing home a bronze medal. As a Year 11 student, Ted will continue to focus on his on court development, whilst pursuing academic merit to pave a pathway into an opportunity at a US University.
In other news, Scots Old Boy, Mitch Short (‘13) was selected to play for the Melbourne Rebels in the Super 15 Rugby Union competition over the holidays. Mitch was an outstanding half back in his Senior years as a GPS 1st XV Premiership Player.
