THE BACKPAGE #20

The stage has been set for a huge Back to Scots Weekend. We are in a great position in Sport where our 1st XV can clinch the Premiership with a win against Joey's this weekend. Our 2nd XV need the win to stay in contention for a Premiership. Scots 2nd XV has not won a Premiership since 1979. No doubt a number of the players from that team will be in the crowd cheering on the boys this Saturday. A Premiership for both teams has not happened in the history of the College. Come support the boys this weekend.

Angela Duckworth in her book Grit explains that passion and perseverance for long-term goals are the key determinants of success. This week our Sportsmaster Ed White sent our new 1,2,3 Sport Selection Policy to boys and parents. The Policy is set to ensure that our boys are focused on long-term sport outcomes rather than switching from sport to sport each year. Can I please ask that all tutors work with parents and boys to ensure that they have made selections that they will commit to. Click here to view Duckworth's GRIT talk.

This weekend also sees a number of key fixtures in other areas. Our Cross Country team are tied with Sydney Boys High in the overall points race with only two races remaining in the season. Our boys need a win this weekend at Riverview to keep their Premiership hopes alive.

Our Football teams play Sydney Boys High at Centennial, and a win for the 2nd XI will keep them alive in the Premiership race. Thanks once again to the entire Scots community for your continued support of our boys. We look forward to having a great turnout this Saturday for what will be a great day of sport.

Scots to the fore!

Volleyball
Our Scots Volleyball team came head to head with Sydney Grammar School with mixed results around the board. Our 14s division blitzed their competition with 3-0 victories and man of the match games from Tom Sarron and Jack Meager.

Prep Sport
From Brent Wilsmore (Prep Sportsmaster)
Our Prep teams continue to excel not just with results but also with their attitude. We have record numbers attending additional skills sessions and their improvement is significant. Our 9A and B Rugby teams scored 175 points for with only 25 against versus King’s. Our teams are resilient and committed and this was highlighted by the 11Cs Rugby who, after going down 15-0 to Waverley in the first 15 minutes, came away with a 17-15 win. Our sportsmanship also continues to shine with special mention to Harvey Douglas who, for the second week in a row, was commended on his sportsmanship by the referee. Team spirit has also been impressive and this is demonstrated by the boys who each week put their hand up to stay back to play an extra game.

Good luck to the following teams who go into the final round undefeated:

Rugby: 9As, 9Bs, 10Bs, 10As and 2nd XV

Football: 1st XI

On Thursday 4 August we also have our Years 2 to 6 House Athletics Carnival at SOPAC Competition Arena.
