CRICKET REPORT

2015/16 was another great season for the Scots Cricket Program. Our juniors sides have again been outstanding, starting the season with a successful tour of Tamworth and took this form into the season proper. Our under 15's continued to be a strong side both before and after Glengary. Our under 14's as a group won over 75% of their matches and our new year 7's have made a successful transition from prep to senior school cricket.

This season, we put out more senior cricket teams than at any other stage in the past 5 seasons. Fielding 1st through to 5ths and 2 under 16's team shows how strong cricket at Scots College has become. All of these teams achieved good success this season and should be applauded for their efforts.

In representative honors, once again we were well represented with the following players being selected in representative teams:

  • Jack Attenborough, Campbell Pert and Jack Willis should be congratulated for making the CIS team this season.
  • Zac Hersov was selected for the NSW U16's State Challenge.
  • Ryan O'Beirne was part of the successful NSW U17's team that won the Aussie Championships and was also selected in the NSW Schoolboys team.
  • Will Lawrance, Will Simpson and Ryan O’Beirne were all selected in the Combined GPS Team to play in the NSW school championships.

Our 2nd XI this year had another good season. It was a very young team this year with the majority of players available to play again next season. This team lost three games this season by less than 20 runs and the teams tremendous fighting victory over Kings and their outright victory in the final round showed the determination that this group displayed throughout the year. I congratulate the team and Mr. Ed White on their performances this season.

To our 1st XI of 2016. The team started this season with an undefeated tour of Perth. This form was then taken into the GPS T20 competition. Once again, like last season, the 1st XI won this competition undefeated with a dominant performance over Newington in the final, and were named AAGPS T20 Champions.

Overall we finished runners up in the GPS Competition. To be honest, this is an amazing result. At stages this year we score 98, 108 and 123. Yet the determination in this group meant that even with some mediocre scores, we won matches. We were never out of the hunt. Against Kings we lost 1st innings yet won outright by 115 runs - something I have not seen before. In our final match we needed an outright victory to keep us in the hunt, and again, this team stood up and won outright with 3 overs to go. As a squad, the 1st XI has lost 1 game in 2 seasons. They should all hold your heads very, very high.

To all the year 12 players in our senior teams, I thank you for your service to the cricket program and I hope that the memories that you leave with here tonight remain with you for years to come. I know that they will for me. I know I am biased, but this has been an amazing period for Scots Cricket. In the past 4 years, our worst result has been a 3rd. All of you should be very proud of this achievement, and our 1st XI has lost only 4 matches in these 4 years. This only happens with having a strong program, throughout al the age groups.

Scots to the fore.
