The Scots College Basketball Program continues to grow in stature as the premier schoolboy basketball program. There was a number of key objectives achieved this year, as the T-12 Pathway demonstrates its substance throughout all age groups and skill levels.
As a program, for the fourth consecutive season, across 39 plus teams, the program achieved a 65%+ win ratio. The U13, U14 and U15 age groups consistently recorded 75%+ win ratios. Performance aside, the enthusiasm, sportsmanship and tone of the basketball program are at an all time high. The identification and implementation of Age Group Head Coaches, supported by College Staff certainly has been a great hybrid of skills and experience.
The continued refinement of the Pathway’s developmental strategy has captured the ‘buy in’ of students of all abilities and ages. The portfolio of Drop in Skills, Junior Academies, Guard Development Workshops and Strength & Conditioning programs places our students at the forefront of athletic opportunity, from a performance and participation perspective.
The continued connection and focus of supporting our Old Boys is an integral focus for the program, with each year of graduates, Scots Basketball players are infiltrating the US College system and NSW ABA Waratah League.
Major highlights from this season include…
The Sydney School Shootout is one of two major tournaments that boast all schools from the GPS & CAS and some schools from ISA and CHS competitions. There are three divisions, Junior (U15), Development (2nds teams), Premier (1sts Teams).

The first week of December each year, Basketball Australia hosts the National Schools Championships. The 1sts Basketball team won the Under 17 Gold Medal at the National Championships. The team went through undefeated, competing against Sydney High, Newington College, Westfield Sports High, Xavier College, Rowville Secondary and St Dominics. This is the College’s first Gold Medal at the National Championships, after winning a Silver Medal in the U20 Championship Division in 2013.
The 2nds Basketball team captured the hearts and minds of the College, when they hosted Riverview in the Lions Den in the last round of GPS competition. Throughout all tournament play, the 2nds continued to build, and experienced a number of tough losses along the way. However, the group continued to develop, study their opposition and remained humble and worked their way to a GPS Premiership, defeating Riverview in front of a packed Lions Den. This result capped an amazing season for the program, with major results at all levels.
The 2016 Season will present a number of new initiatives, centering on our holiday camps and workshops and partnering with like-minded agencies to present our Scots boys with a Pathway that is based on performance and participation.
Scots to the fore!
