Powys Dominates In Schoolboy Championship

Year 12 student Nicholas Powys, was recently selected in the combined GPS cricket side and played his first match of the carnival today. Nicholas almost single handedly won the match for the GPS team taking 6/18 after the GPS only posted 120 in their innings. In the end GPS defeated CHS 2 by a single run, and this was in large part to the outstanding performance of Nicholas. Nicholas was selected in the combined GPS side after taking 29 wickets in an outstanding season in the Scots 1st XI, that culminated in him winning the 1st XI MVP award. It was a season that almost never happened after Nicholas was diagnosed with stress fractures in his back and was told that he could no longer bowl his medium pace. Instead of throwing in the towel, Nicholas took up bowling left arm orthodox spin bowling and never looked back. He worked hard with Beau Casson to learn the art of spin bowling after bowling medium pace all his life. In a very short space of time, Nick managed to get a very good grasp on his new trade, and the rest as they say, is history. Hopefully his selection in the combined GPS side is the first of many representative honors. Even if it isn’t, Nick has demonstrated a never say die attitude and a great ability to overcome adversity, something we could all learn from.
