In the recent match against Joeys, Ripley Atkinson, from the 15A's, scored his maiden century for the college. Please read below for the match summary from his coach Mr. Ed White:
After a loss the week before to SGS, Scots 15a's travelled out to Joeys for this weekends fixture. The track looked like a road and we decided to have a bat. At 6 for 95 with only Tom Griffin reaching 28 and all other batsmen back in the shed for single figures, maybe batting wasn't looking like the right move. Ripley Atkinson was joined by Xavier Roche. What followed was a wonderful display of gritty and determined batting that resulted in an 87 run partnership that had everything. Xavier Roche was so determined not to lose his wicket and made 12 runs off 42 balls. Ripley who after 33 balls was only on 7, played a magnificent innings. Ripley hit 11 four's and 8 sixes on his way to a brilliant 104, which was his maiden century for the college. Joeys bowlers had no answer to this power hitting and really couldn't find a spot on the pitch that wasn't going to see the ball be dispatched into the crowd. Also great cameos by Charlie Hooke 24 and the new boy from the bush, Jock Menzies playing in his first game for the A's with a flamboyant 52 not out.
So after being in all sorts at 6-95 we ended up with 265 all out. With runs on the board we can take some confidence into this weeks bowling thanks mainly to a great comeback by our tail end.
In other great news for the College, the U13's sides all started the season, and their senior school cricket, with comprehensive victories over St Josephs College. Congratulations to all players and coaches.
Good luck to all teams on the weekend.
