Cross Country Success

Cross Country Champions

The Cross Country team competed at the Kings Relay Invitational on Saturday 24th August. The team was in fine form and up to the challenge from a very strong Newington team winning the Open and Intermediate titles.

The Open team consisting of Byron Crimmons, Jordan Gates, Joe Mallat and Tim Spehr fought back from behind to win the 9.2km event by just 6 seconds over Newington. The team looked very confident stepping up to the challenge on each leg, holding form on every attack that Newington offered. The second team of Phoenix Love, Max Wilson, Andrew Richardson and Thomas Hammond showed off the Scots depth that has lead to an overall lead in the GPS team race by finishing 4th on the day.

The Intermediate team of Christian Della-Cioppa, Harry Brink, Oliver Lefebvre and Matthew Scott dominated the competition on their way to winning the competition. The team was fifth overall in the 85 team field being beaten only by Scots Opens A and B teams St. Joseph’s Open team and Newington’s Open team. The intermediate team have a commanding lead in the overall GPS standings and with the confidence that they displayed on the weekend look ready to step up to the longer Open division next year.
