Members of the Athletics team have exceeded expectations with outstanding performances at the New South Wales Junior Athletics Championship held at Sydney Olympic Park on the 8th, 9th and 10th of February.
The Scots College earned 8 medals over the weekend including two State Champions. Year 7 Charlie Burgess-Hoar earned his first state championship with an outstanding performance in the Under 14 High Jump. Year 10 Matthew Scott ran an outstanding race to win the State Championship in the Under 18 3000m.
The ever-improving Jordan Gates who has committed himself this summer to training and competing ran a gutsy race from the front and was rewarded by winning the silver medal in the Under 18 Steeplechase.
Year 7’s Christopher Ballas and Cameron Fleming both had strong performances in their respective races. Christopher won the bronze medal in the U14 200m and followed the performance the next day with a bronze medal in the U14 400m. Cameron Fleming managed a personal best performance to win the bronze medal in the U14 800m.
Year 8 Billy Ryan ran an outstanding race on his way to a personal best performance in the Under 16 1500m earning himself a bronze medal.
Other bronze medalists over the weekend were Timothy Spehr in the Under 18 3000m and Alexander Murrel in the Under 20 Pole Vault.
All boys who placed in the top 3 have earned themselves automatic position on the New South Wales Athletics team and have been invited to represent New South Wales at the upcoming National Junior Athletics Championship in Perth.
Also selected to the New South Wales team based on performance are Max Wilson in the Under 20 3000m Steeplechase, Jacob McCorry in the Under 18 110m Hurdles, Josh Zuchiatti in the Under 18 400m and Jack Freer in the Under 16 3000m.

Congratulations to all of the boys who have competed over the weekend. Most of our boys were competing in their first state level competition and have managed personal best performances and outstanding results.
The athletics team is now beginning our main training phase prior to the start of GPS competition. The boys have proved that a commitment to training and competing results in outstanding performances.
