Vale Mr. Graeme Dedrick, College Sportsmaster, Anderson House 1974
Graeme commenced at Scots in Kindergarten in 1961. Throughout his school years, Graeme demonstrated his competitive spirit and passion for the College, representing Scots in the 1st XI Cricket Team and 1st XV Rugby Union Team in 1973 & 1974. Graeme also represented the AAGPS in the 3rd XV Rugby Team, as well as captaining the College Athletics team, whilst holding the 800mtr and 1500mtr school champion trophies.
In addition to Graeme’s sporting prowess, his ability to lead and inspire his peers was evident. Graeme was elected College Prefect, Anderson House Captain and Cadet Under Officer in his senior year.
Graeme continued his sporting life after leaving Scots, playing competitive senior rugby, water polo and cricket. On completing his Diploma of Physical Education at ACPE, Graeme took up his first teaching position at Palmerston North Boys High School in New Zealand.
Since returning to Australia, Graeme was appointed to Brisbane Grammar School where he taught for 15 years, during which time he completed his Bachelor of Education and held the positions of Master in Charge of Swimming and Athletics. Graeme successfully coached rugby, cricket and athletics in the Brisbane GPS competition and for the last 7 years was the Head of PDHPE.
Since returning to Bellevue Hill as Director of Sport in the mid 1990’s, and more recently Senior Sportsmaster, Graeme has used his extensive knowledge of coaching and administration of sport to add significant value to many of our sports programs. Graeme has been heavily involved in schoolboy rugby, coaching NSW Schools at a number of Australian Championships and was Manager of the Australian Schools Rugby Team from 2006 to 2009. Graeme also held the position of Vice President of NSW Schools Rugby Association.
Graeme’s unrivalled passion for Scots and the AAGPS will be long remembered and cherished within our community and in our hearts. Graeme’s wife Jayne, and children Melissa and Michael will be in our daily prayers.
Details of Graeme’s memorial service will be forwarded when they are finalised.
