Scots Football 2nd Xi completed their most successful season in 2012, falling just short of winning the Premiership by 1 goal to finish runners up.
In the first game of the season the boys lost 1 – 0 to Grammar but then put together a five game unbeaten run to put themselves at the top of the league heading into the final game. Convincing wins against Joeys, Riverview, Shore and High were built on a solid defence, and the boys also held a strong Newington side to a draw. So, it fell to the final game of the season against Kings, but despite taking an early lead, the boys were undone by a controversial penalty decision and a well worked Kings goal soon afterwards, and couldn’t find a cutting edge to secure the draw they needed to become GPS Premiers for the first time. Nevertheless, this season marked a huge step forward for the 2nds – demonstrated not only by their results, but also in the manner in which they approached the games, played as a team and progressed in terms of the development of their skill level. They held the best defensive record of any GPS team (conceding only 5 goals) and as previously stated, finished 2nd in their highest position ever. Congratulations to all the boys concerned, the coaching staff and the boys’ parents who supported from the sidelines each week!
