David Horwitz, Andrew Kellaway and Jim Stewart have been selected for Australian Schoolboys 2012. This is the second successive year for David and Jim of Year 12.
All 3 boys gained selection for the GPS 1st XV following impressive performances in school trial games. All 3 were then selected for NSW Schools 1stXV, and were instrumental in securing victory for NSW at the State Championships. To be selected in the top side at each stage of the representative process is a great achievement, and one that points not only to their quality as players, but also to the consistency and discipline in their game.
NSW 1stXV defeated last year’s winners, Queensland, in Saturday’s final in which Andrew Kellaway scored two tries, taking his tally to 6 and ruling him top try scorer in the competition. Jim Stewart showed a return to top form following injury and impressed selectors with both the angles and strength of his running. David Horwitz, who was also captain from his pivotal position of fly half, stood out for his passing game and overall game management.
This year’s selection adds to the 3 Australian Schoolboys in 2011 and is further proof of the growing strength of Scots Rugby.
The college wishes Andrew, David and Jim the very best when they take on Tonga this Saturday. The game kicks off at 6pm at St. Mary’s RL Stadium.
